"Est-ce que le masque va enfin se casser et être remplacé par un sourire?" C'est la question qu'un journaliste américain a posé à Janne s'il montait sur le podium olympique. Le sauteur de Lahti a répondu: "ça va arriver. Oui."
 
This is the question that an American journalist asked to Janne if he finally climbed on the olympic podium. The jumper from Lahti answered with a smile: "That would happen. Yes."

Après le weekend à Oberstdorf, Janne est rentré en Finlande pour s'entraîner sur son tremplin et faire un peu de condition physique. Jeudi, il a pris l'avion avec Matti Hautamäki, Kalle Keituri, Harri Olli et Janne Happonen pour Park City. Le but premier est de s'habituer aux 10 heures décalage horaire. Autrement, ils suivent un camp d'entraînement. Mardi, ils reprennent l'avion pour Vancouver. Le 10 et e 11 février, il y aura des séances d'entraînement sur le petit tremplin olympique que personne ne connaît. En tout, chaque sauteur pourra sauter 10 fois sur le petit tremplin avant la compétition de samedi (13.02). Mais Janne a déjà dit qu'il ne sauterait pas à chaque fois. Janne écrit sur son blog qu'il a travaillé très dur pour être prêt pour ses JO. Son objectif est de réussir à décrocher une médaille si possible en or.
 
After the weekend in Oberstdorf, Janne went back to Finland for jumping and physical training. On Thursday he took the plane with Matti Hautamäki, Kalle Keituri, Harri Olli et Janne Happonen to Park City in the 2002 Olympic park. The first aim is to get used to the 10 hours of jet lag. Then they participate to a training camp. On Tuesday they will fly to Vancouver. On February 10th and 11th there will be training jumps on the normal hill that nobody knows. In overall there will be 10 training jumps (including the qualifiaction) before the competition on Saturday. Janne said that he will not jump everytime. He wrote on his blog that he worked very hard to be ready for these Games and do the best result as possible with a medal if possible in gold.

Janne assure une place dans le top 10 mais sans briller. Il est 8ème avec 190m. En finale, il se rate. Avec 190.5m, il dégringole à la 11ème place. Une compétition à oublier au plus vite. Espérons qu'il redresse la barre avant Vancouver!

Matti Hautamäki lance doucement la Finlande dans la compétition par équipe. Avec un saut à 201.5m depuis la plateforme 26, il n'est que 5ème. Depuis la plateforme 22, Kalle Keituri saute à 202.5m. Le plus long saut de l'équipe en première manche. Le petit sauteur est aux anges. Depuis la même plateforme et plus de vent de face, Janne Ahonen fait un saut médiocre à 197.5m. Harri Olli se rate aussi. Avec seulement 183.5m, la Finlande est 3ème de la première manche, 17 points derrière la Norvège et sous la menace de l'Allemagne. En finale, Matti saute à nouveau à 205.5m. Malheureusement, Evensen accroît l'écart entre Finlandais et Norvégiens. Avec ses 194m, Kalle Keituri reprend d'un coup 15m aux Norvégiens! La deuxième place n'est plus qu'à 13 points. Dans le groupe suivant, Janne ne plane pas et se pose à seulement 195m. Avec ce saut raté, il perd presque 30 points sur les Norvégiens. Dernier à s'élancer, Harri rase la bosse et toute la piste. A tout moment, il peut touché mais il vole! A 180m, il est repris par une masse d'air et se pose finalement à 212.5m. Il monte les bras au ciel. Il remporte le saut de son groupe mais la Finlande termine 3ème derrière l'intouchable Autriche et la solide Norvège. "Nous avons eu des problèmes, petits et gros, cette saison et nous sommes satisfaits du résultat. La 3ème place est plus que ce que nous espérions. Nous aimerions connaître le secret des Autrichiens pour sauter aussi bien," commente Kalle Keituri à la conférence de presse.  
 
Matti Hautamäki opened the team competition with a jump at 2015m from the gate 26. Finland is 6th. From the gate 22, Kalle Kaituri landed at 202.5m. The longest jump of the team in that round. From the same gate and with more wind, Janne is more shorter. Only 197.5m. Harri Olli also missed his jump. With 183.5m Finland is 3rd, 17 points behind Norway. In final Matti jumped again over 200m. Unfortunately Evensen jumped longer and took more points. With 194.5m, Kalle took 15m to the Norwegians! The second place is only 13 points ahead. But Janne missed his jump and lost 30 points to the Norwegians. Harri Olli jumped 212.5m but Finland finished 3rd. Of course, Austria won and Norway was 2nd. "We had some problems, big and small, this season and we are very satisfied with the result. The third place is more than we expected. We would like to know the secret of the Austrians and also jump that well.” said Kalle at the presse conference.

Dans deux semaines, les Jeux Olympiques de Vancouver commence. Le programme de Janne est le suivant: il participe ce weekend aux compétitions de vol à ski à Oberstdorf, puis retour en Finlande avant de prendre l'avion mercredi 4 février pour Salt Lake City. Là-bas, l'équipe (Kalle Keituri, Harri Olli, Matti Hautamäki et Janne Happonen), vont suivre un camp d'entraînement avant d'aller au Canada.
 
In two weeks the Olympic Games in Vancouver will start. Janne's program is: participation to the ski flying competitions of this weekend in Oberstdorf then come back to Finland before to take the plane on Wednesday February 4th to Salt Lake City. There the team (Kalle Keituri, Harri Olli, Matti Hautamäki and Janne Happonen) will have a training camp before to go to Canada.

Sur son blog Janne nous dit que l'équipe qui a le plus de chance de remporter de médailles aux Jeux Olympiques est sans hésitation l'Autriche. Ils sont tellement forts! Les autres équipes ne peuvent espérer que l'argent ou le bronze. Mais en cas de défaillance de la Wunderteam, il faudra en profiter! Le peuple finlandais ne croit pas vraiment en son équipe. Mais le sauteur de Lahti écrit qu'il ne faut pas oublier qu'à Ruka lors du par équipe, ils étaient 3ème et qu'ils sautent maintenant beaucoup mieux qu'en début de saison. Concernant les querelles au sein de l'équipe décrites récemment dans les médias finlandais, Janne pense qu'elles n'affecteront pas le résultat des compétitions par équipe. Les sauteurs sautent pour le groupe et mettent de côté leurs ambitions personnelles.
 
On se réjouit déjà des compétitions de vol à ski ce weekend à Oberstdorf. Samedi, il y aura une compétition par équipe et dimanche une compétition individuelle. Janne participera aux compétitions avec les autres membres de l'équipe nommés pour Vancouver (Matti Hautamäki, Kalle Keituri et Harri Olli).
 
On his blog Janne told us that the team that has more chance to win medals at the Olympic Games is without any hesitation is Austria. They are so strong! The other teams can only dream about silver and bronze medals. But if anything goes wrong in the Wunderteam, the others must take the opportunity! The Finnish people seem to don't really believe in its team. But the jumper from Lahti reminds to everybody that in Ruka the team was third and that now they jump much better. Concering the quarrels in the team recently reported by the Finnish media, Janne thinks that they will not affect the jumpers in the team competitions because they are jumping for a group and also for they country.
 
We are already enthusiast about the ski flying competitions this weekend in Oberstdorf. Saturday there will be a team competition and on Sunday an individual competition. Janne is participating with the other team members nominated for Vancouver (Matti Hautamäki, Kalle Keituri and Harri Olli).

Vendredi, les conditions aérologiques ont perturbé toute la compétition avec du faible vent parfois arrière et de légères chutes de neige. De plus, de nombreux sauteurs ont presque fait une vrille sur la droite à la sortie du tremplin. Étrange. La trace, serait-elle asymétrique? Heureusement, personne ne chute. Avec 128.5m, Janne est 6ème englué au milieu des Autrichiens et très loin du podium. Il faut dire que Simon Ammann et Gregor Schlierenzauer ont tué la compétition avec des bonds à 136 et 138m. En finale, il en fait trop à la sortie de la table, perd de la vitesse et se pose à un petit 123.5m. Il s'en sort plutôt bien en ne perdant qu'une seule place. Bref, une compétition très moyenne. Et pour la 30ème fois, c'est Schlieri qui s'impose facilement.
 
Friday the weather contidions were not so good with almost no wind or small back wind and sometimes some snowfall. With 128.5m, Janne is 6th in the middle of the Austrians and quite far from the podium. We have to say that Simon Ammann and Gregor Schlierenzauer killed the suspens with jumps at 136 and 138m. In final, Janne did too much, he lost a lot of speed and landed only at 123.5m. Luckily he lost only one rank. So, it was an okay competition but not top. Et for the 30th time it's Schlieri that won easily.

Janne se place une nouvelle fois derrière les meilleurs au 8ème en première manche samedi. Cette fois, le podium est vraiment inaccessible. En finale, il se rate aussi. Avec 122.5m, il se classe 9ème. Par contre, je trouve que durant tout le weekend, les juges ont été très sévères avec lui. Ses notes de style sont restées scotchées à 18-18.5pts alors que les autres, qui n'étaient pas vraiment plus esthétiques, avaient de bien meilleures notes. Et pour terminer, les deux extraterrestres nous ont offert une belle bagarre à coup de records du tremplin. Simi et Schlieri sont vraiment sur une autre planète.
 
Janne landed just behind the best jumpers at the 8th place during the first round of Saturday's competition. But after that jump, the podium was unaccessible. In final, he missed his jump. With 122.5m, he is classified at the 9th place. However I think that the judges were very strict with him. The notes given were arround 18-18.5pts whereas others had better marks and were not more esthetic. And to conclude, the 2 UFO from ski jumping Simon Ammann and Gregor Schlierenzauer fought for the win with hill records. It was fantastic. They are really jumping in another world.
